As part of the efforts to achieve an improved, safer and sustainable environment, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has organised a one-day capacity-building training for its accredited consultants across the State. The training is aimed at updating their knowledge of the current trends in addressing global climate change challenges and other environmental problems for sustainable development.
In his address at the training programme organised in conjunction with the Climate Transition Academy and held at the STO Resource Centre, Ikeja, on Tuesday, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi charged the participants to support the State Government in its bid to deliver a safer, healthier and sustainable environment through the adoption of Environment Social Governance (ESG) global model in tackling identified environmental challenges.
Dr. Ajayi noted that the new Environment Social and Governance (ESG) model is the global practice in tackling the trending climate change effects and other environmental problems around the world.
He averred that the training of LASEPA-accredited consultants became necessary to update their knowledge and increase their capacities in the application of the global standard model in managing environmental issues, especially the climate change problem and its associated greenhouse gas emissions
In addition, Dr. Ajayi stated that the programme would also help to raise awareness of knowledge transfer and competence development of the Agency’s accredited consultants with the overall objective of improving public service delivery by the Agency.
The General Manager, who disclosed that LASEPA in the last three months of his administration had sealed about 250 organisations including industries, night clubs and worship places for noise pollution and other environmental infractions, added that the Agency is embarking on a lot of reforms geared towards achieving a noiseless, cleaner, safer Lagos that is pollution free.
In his remarks, Mr. James Ogunleye, Executive Director, Carbon Limits Nigeria, who spoke on behalf of other facilitators, stated that the programme would help expose LASEPA-accredited consultants and broaden their knowledge of the current global practices in a sustainable environment.
He added that the issue of climate change and global warming effects and other global environmental issues have made it mandatory for environmental consultants to be well informed and equipped with updated knowledge on the application of appropriate solutions in tackling global environmental problems.
“The training has provided a window of opportunity to the accredited consultants to update their knowledge and get acquainted with the current trends in global best practices on sustainable environment.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of plaques and trophies to the participants with outstanding contributions and participation in their assigned tasks.
