LASEPA HOLDS TRAINING PROGRAMME ON  ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE FOR OFFICERS


As part of efforts of the Lagos State Government to advance the cause of environmental justice toward achieving a clean, safe, sustainable and environmentally planned Lagos City,  the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), in collaboration with the Institute of Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS), Erasmus University Rotterdam, had commenced a transformative international capacity-building and training programme for selected officers of LASEPA and other key Government Agencies at the Victoria Crown Plaza Hotel.


Addressing participants at the event on Tuesday, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi expressed profound gratitude for the collaborative effort between the Agency, IHS, and NUFFIC/OKP for making the capacity-building training possible. 

According to him, the training would equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of environmental justice concepts, principles, and their intricate connections with social justice, good governance and the rule of law in participatory governance.


He also underscored the importance of the training in advancing LASEPA’s core mandate of protecting and improving the environment. Recognising the pivotal role of environmental preservation in the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Governor Sanwo-Olu Administration in the State.


Ajayi noted that the issue of training and collaboration are crucial to achieving global standard practice in a sustainable environment 


He expressed confidence in the programme’s ability to expose participants to innovative approaches in environmental justice management, urging them to leverage the existing laws and mandates to implement government reform policies on a sustainable environment that is devoid of degradation.


The General Manager, therefore assured participants of the State Government’s readiness for continued collaboration with various development partners to foster the growth of environmental justice and sustainable development.
