The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) is the environmental regulator for Lagos State of Nigeria. This environmental objective is in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Section II, 20 which states that “The State shall protect and improve the environment and safeguard the water, air and land, forest and wild life of Nigeria”
Our main thrust in LASEPA is to protect and improve the environment. We assist public and private organizations, industries, businesses and non-governmental organizations to achieve compliance by providing environment friendly solutions to varied environmental challenges.
The Agency warehouses and interprets the data of all water bodies in the State as well as the regular monitoring of the quality of underground water. Similarly, the quality of potable water from the packaged water industry is constantly under view.
We conduct studies on the air quality of the State such as air quality sampling and monitoring in designated grids and develop air quality management database for the State. The Agency also develops inventory of emissions for statutory and mobile sources and modeling or configuration of simple interactive spreadsheets in partnership with research organizations and agencies.
We encourage all organizations that impact significantly on the environment to make use of Best Available Technology (BAT) while providing training and relevant networking that will assist them to meet regulatory standards at a business friendly cost.
To achieve its institutional responsibility the agency is committed to clean development and accredits Environmental Consultants that will not compromise on professionalism, while their activities are closely monitored and reviewed annually by the Agency.
We keep all environmental records as well as publish or archive a wide range of research publications or environmental reports.
For a successful regulation of the state of environment in Lagos, the Agency has a strong collaboration with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) which is not limited to the Ministry of Environment, Lagos Waste Management Authority, Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of Health.
As an implementing organ of the State’s policies on the environment, the Agency gives preference to and works hand in hand with all environmental stakeholders as well as national and international agencies on the environment. Consequently, we work under the ambit of all Laws, Treaties, Regulations, Conventions, Conferences or Agreements entered into by the national or state government with respect to the environment.
